Spring 2026

In April, a new cohort of fifteen students were greeted at Heathrow Airport by staff members, Michael and Jacob. From there, they travelled to Oxford, where they were welcomed by the Bursar and Junko.

During their time in Oxford, the students received important information and guidance about their stay, as well as an introduction to the exciting experiences ahead. They spent three days in Oxford, giving them an opportunity to recover from their long journey, get to know one another, and explore the sights before continuing to Durham.

On arrival in Durham they were given their room keys and free time to unpack and explore if they wished.  Over the next couple of days, they went for a walk around the beautiful city of Durham and met the rest of the Teikyo Durham staff.

Since arriving in Durham the students have been working hard to develop their English skills but have still found time to do many activities and trips.  Here is a sample of what they have been up too!

Playing Badminton

Badminton is a good social sport and a great way to spend time away from studies, it keeps you fit and is a great way to have fun! The students certainly enjoyed this activity!

Crook Hall Visit and Workshop

The students spent a morning at Crook Hall wandering through the interlinking gardens and got in touch with nature and their feelings with their guided host, Kirsty. She introduced different flowers, herbs and weeds and about how they can be used for cooking.

The students had the opportunity to sample dandelion juice, mint and nettle tea with cake.  They picked flowers from the gardens and created their own floral displays.

Unfortunately, the weather was typically British with sunshine, showers and hailstone all in one morning!  However, this did not stop the students from learning about nature, exploring their feelings in a relaxing environment, and most importantly, having fun!

Volunteering

Some of the students have started to volunteer around Durham to gain experience speaking with others and to help develop their speaking and listening skills.

Day Trips

The students have enjoyed seeing different places around the northeast, including Newcastle, Northumberland, and a visit to Beamish Museum.

They also had a day trip to Liverpool and some students have also been arranging their own excursions and trips too!

The day in Northumberland was truly an experience that all visitors to the UK should try.  Northumberland is steeped in history, and the coastline is so beautiful.  The students enjoyed their day!

The students have been so busy studying, doing activities and travelling. It is a pleasure to see them experiencing life in the UK and most of all learning while having fun!
