The Economics Career Challenge Programme (ECCP) - (25th February - !0th March)

This year we had four students join us for our Economics Career Challenge Programme (ECCP).   Their time spent at Durham passed by so quickly as they were busy from arrival to departure.

On their first full day in Durham, they had a briefing with the Bursar, they attended classes and went on a City and Campus tour to get their bearings and find out about the local area and see its beauty.

The students are still smiling after climbing the 325 spiral steps of the Cathedral Tower.

Trips

On Saturday 28th February, staff member Michael travelled by train to London with the students.  Like our previous short course students, they spent time visiting the British Museum and immersed themselves in history.    Afterwards Michael, took them on a tour of the most popular tourist destinations: Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament and a quick stop outside the Tower of London. It was an exhausting but adventurous day before they returned to Durham in the evening.

After such a busy day in London, the students had a day of rest on the Sunday before heading up to Edinburgh on the Monday to continue their UK adventures.  Here, they went to Edinburgh Castle, the National Gallery, a walk-up Calton Hill and free time to do as they wished.

Kasai UK – Manufacturing Plant in Washington, Tyne and Wear.

The students had two visits to the manufacturing plant in Washington, Tyne and Wear. During their first visit, they were introduced to the company and given an overview of its operations, values, culture and career pathways.

On their second visit, they were given a factory tour, where they saw how Japanese personnel integrate and contribute within a global organisation.

Overall, the two visits were a valuable learning experience, and the students all came away with a ‘goodie’ bag!

Extended Fun and Activities

Back in Durham, the students worked hard academically in classes, a book club and attended lectures but still found time to relax and enjoy a fun night of bowling. On their final day, they celebrated with a farewell meal followed by karaoke, a perfect way to end their time together.

Although their schedule was incredibly busy while they were here, they embraced every moment, making the most of every experience and memory in Durham.  Amazing!
