A New Season at Teikyo Durham

The past few weeks have been full of change and activity here at Teikyo University in Durham, as we welcomed new faces, said goodbye to others, and began another exciting term.

TSAP in Durham and Edinburgh
At the end of August we hosted a short TSAP course, with students spending several days exploring Durham and its surroundings. They enjoyed getting to know the historic city, from the cathedral and castle to the winding streets along the river. The highlight of their stay was a trip to Edinburgh, where they soaked up the Scottish capital’s unique atmosphere, admired its stunning architecture, and had the chance to experience its vibrant culture. Although the course was brief, students made the most of every moment, and we hope their time in Durham will inspire them to return in the future.

Farewell to our Spring Students
August also marked the end of our Spring Programme. After months of studying at the English Language Centre and taking part in a wide range of cultural activities, our spring students departed for Japan. Their time here was filled with learning, exploration, and exchange, and we look forward to hearing how they continue to build on these experiences back home.

Welcoming the Autumn Cohort
At the start of September it was time to welcome our new cohort for the Autumn course. After a long journey from Japan, the students began their induction in Cambridge, staying at St Edmund’s College. There they experienced one of the city’s most famous traditions: punting along the River Cam. They also had time to explore the historic colleges and beautiful streets of Cambridge, gaining a real sense of the university city.

During their stay, the students attended a fascinating lecture on the history of Cambridge by Ann Muston, which gave them valuable insight into the city’s past and its place in British culture. Another highlight was a traditional formal dinner at St Edmund’s College, where staff and students shared excellent food in a memorable setting.

After Cambridge, the group travelled north to Durham to complete their induction and begin their classes. With orientation activities, tours of the city, and the first lessons of the term, it has been a busy but rewarding start.

Looking Ahead
With the new semester now underway, staff and students alike are looking forward to the months ahead. From academic study to cultural exchange and field trips, the Autumn course promises to be filled with opportunities for growth and memorable experiences. We can’t wait to see what the coming weeks will bring!
